Simple swaps for a healthier YOU!

Eating a balanced diet is important for both life longevity and quality of life. At Mama Gaia, we make enjoying a healthy diet easy by serving fresh organic and plant-based foods, instead of foods packed with added fats, sugars and pesticides. To enjoy meals and snacks that are better for you and the world, we’ve outlined a few smart swaps. It’s easier than you think!

Veggie burger > beef burger
Newsflash! You don’t have to be a vegetarian or vegan to enjoy a hearty veggie burger! Every day, more and more restaurants are adding this delicious item to their menus. Why? They are a healthy alternative to beef burgers. Veggie burgers can increase an individual’s daily fiber intake while cutting saturated fat from their diet. People also have taken to ordering this dish because eating too much red meat can raise cholesterol, which can lead to an increased risk of heart disease and various cancers.

At Mama Gaia, we serve a Classic Veggie Burger and a Smokehouse Veggie Burger--both are crazy good! Each comes with fresh, house-made vegan patties and delicious toppings that will satisfy your tummy without the crud that’s found in the alternative.

Agave > refined sugar
Agave is often used as a substitute for sugar because the nectar is a genuine sugar that has no artificial sweetening agents added. It’s important to note that you should always opt for organic agave when purchasing. Known for its low glycemic index, agave is a healthier alternative to many processed and natural sweeteners. Foods with higher glycemic indexes can occasionally trigger a spike in blood sugar and insulin, which can be harmful to people with diabetes.

Some of our favorite smoothies at Mama Gaia are sweetened with organic agave, including the Ginger Mango Green Tea and the Energy Booster. Try them and let us know what you think!

Baked fries > traditional fries
Fries are the ultimate side dish, but let’s be honest...they’re certainly not the healthiest. Traditional fries are loaded with extra fat, sodium and calories because of the oil used in frying. To lower your fat consumption, switch from frying to baking. Baking your fries can cut back on the amount of oil that is absorbed into the dish. Thus, resulting in taking in less fat. Can’t go wrong!

At Mama Gaia, we choose to serve our customers the healthy option, of course. Our baked, hand-cut potato wedges are to die for. Pair them with a pita, quinoa bowl or veggie burger and you’re all set. Dining in with us? We highly recommend dipping them in our organic ketchup or organic sriracha. Yum!

Smoothies > frappuccinos
Let’s face it, there’s a reason people call sweet treats like frappuccinos guilty pleasures. They’re jam-packed with calories and sugar, and not to mention, they tend to be the most expensive drinks on coffee shop menus. A grande Vanilla Bean Frappuccino from Starbucks boasts 400 calories, 16 grams of fat (10 of which are saturated) and 59 grams of sugar! Imagine what’s being consumed by an individual each week if they swing by the coffee shop at least three times. Scary, huh?

Recharge and get your caffeine fix with our healthy alternative at Mama Gaia. Our Espresso Cream smoothie contains bananas, rolled oats, rice milk, cinnamon and chili powder! You’ll thank us!

Quinoa > rice
Quinoa has become a popular substitute for rice because it is a complete protein that promotes gut health with its inflammatory abilities. It’s also naturally gluten-free and contains important minerals like iron, magnesium and zinc. This ancient superfood is also very filling because it is high in dietary fiber, which means that people are less likely to overeat when quinoa is included in a dish.

Make sure you check out our four, highly sought after quinoa bowls that are packed with flavorful veggies next time you visit us at Mama Gaia. From the Cena Bowl with tasty asparagus to the Memphia Bowl that features barbecue tofu, you can’t go wrong.
